The canal journey – A remarkable piece of television

I would like to send my congratulations and applause to BBC4 and the beeb in general for airing All aboard! The canal Trip last night. It really was a remarkable piece of television, quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen aired. In stark contrast to the boom, bang and eek of normal tv, it was a calm, relaxing journey down a canal, filmed almost entirely from the stern of a barge. I must admit I didn’t watch it all, but rather darted between the tv and my computer. Yet it truly was a brave decision to air such a film: it was virtually one two-hour shot, no music, and the odd caption. At points they merged the shot seamlessly with archive footage. The bravery and beauty of it made my jaw drop; I really must take my hat off to the people who thought it up, made it, and had the guts to put it on air.
