The USA is genuinely starting to worry me. On facebook yesterday, I asked one of the anti-religion pages I’m on a question about how religious America was becoming, and one respondent kindly recommended that I checked out a Youtube channel by someone called Owen Morgan, aka Telltale. He is a former Jahovah’s Witness who is now making videos about his former church, religion and american politics. Naturally I did so, and what he has already revealed to me is as fascinating as it is insane. Morgan is clearly an intelligent, coherent young man, but what I’ve already learned from him about the religious fundamentalist component of American culture defies belief, if you’ll forgive the pun. Some of these so-called preachers or pastors, for example, seem to genuinely believe that Donald Trump is some sort of messiah – it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so fucked up.
