Something very odd is going on with regard to the news. I think I’ve said here before that I begin every morning by watching the BBBC Breakfast program. After that, before either heading out or starting something more sensible, I usually watch a few Youtube videos. One of the Channels I often watch is Owen Jones – I like his take on current affairs, although I can see how some may call it a bit extreme. The weird thing is, the contrast between the two with respect to the war in Iran is becoming more and more noticeable. This morning for instance, the war barely registered on the beeb, appearing fifth or even sixth down their hourly list of headlines; but to listen to Jones on his latest video, the war is an absolutely cataclysmic event as big as or bigger than the pandemic. To listen to him the conflict is of the utmost concern and will only get bigger and bigger. The question is, who should we listen to? is the BBC playing things down to keep us all calm; or might Youtubers like Jones be over dramatising things in order to attract views? Is this conflict nothing to worry about, or the beginning of a third world war?
Hi M@@ I missed Owen Jones , as I haven’t seen him in The Guardian for a while. I generally agree with his take on things. didn’t know where he had gone to. Thanks for the info. Love Aki

I think the difference is the BBC is reporting today’s events factually. Owen Jones presents his opinion of what the future of this war will bring. Many opinion articles I have read consider this the start of WW III. The environmental effects, the effects on the world economy, and the possible refugee problem are enormous. Then the US government is run by a mentally failing narcissist who acts on whim. He is support ob a Secretary of Defense (War) who speaks of the war like a teenager playing video games. This looks like the entire post WW II model of international relations has collapsed. What will replace it? Fascism on the rise world-wide. In the UK the number one party are fascists. They are in charge in the USA, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria. It is a worrying time.
