I’m not sure whether I’ve blogged about this before, but it’s definitely worth reiterating. I’m now a big fan of the Elizabeth Line. I use it quite regularly, and to think that such a system could be created from scratch still makes my jaw drop. I enjoyed a lovely lunch with my family yesterday at a Chinese restaurant in Brent, and so used the Lizzie Line to get to the other side of the metropolis.
However, what bugs me is the fact that none of the stations on that side of the city are step free, so I have to ask for someone to be waiting for me with a ramp to allow me to get off the train. It obviously isn’t that much of a problem, and yesterday it went without a hitch. Yet, you would think that, given it’s a completely new railway line, all of the platforms could have been made level with the train. That way, guys like me could just get on and off when we want, without having to tell the station staff of our intentions or having to commit to a fixed destination. Joking aside, the need to tell TFL staff where I want to go makes me feel kind of awkward and special; would it have been so difficult to lump a little more concrete onto the platforms to make journeys like mine slightly more seamless? Given that they spent such an eye-watering sum on the Elizabeth line, to be honest it baffles me that it isn’t quite perfect.
