If you want (another) example of just how advanced, articulate and interesting online TV and film analysis is becoming, I really, really think you should check this out today. It’s Steve Shives’ review of classic Star Trek episode Let This Be Your Last Battlefield, and I certainly think that, as a piece of incisive, balanced textual analysis, it couldn’t be better. As Shives points out, the original Trek episode has a lot of pacing issues, and many might criticise it for being a tad heavy-handed; yet, like much of Star Trek, it still has a lot to say about contemporary American culture. Star Trek was at it’s best when it was making overt political and social comments, and Let This Be Your Last Battlefield was arguably the pinnacle of that. Above all though, as a witty, entertaining review, I think this is definitely worth a watch.
