Today I would just like to draw everyone’s attention to a bit of a coincidence. Something I noticed quite some time ago, which strikes me as an uncanny coincidence personally but would no doubt pass totally unnoticed by anyone else. These days, one of the places I go to for my regular daily trundles is the Westfield Centre in Stratford, a huge American shopping mall. The truly odd thing is, Westfield Flats were the name of the four student rooms one of which I used at university. That in itself would obviously be nothing notable for anyone but me; but the weird coincidence is, Westfield also happens to be the name of the small village my Dad’s family comes from down in Sussex. It’s only the reuse of a name which isn’t that unusual, but I think it’s kind of cool to see one area of my life echoed in another. Going shopping in the one always reminds me of the other two, although as I was going through the cavernous mall today I couldn’t help reflecting that you can barely get much more different. Finding such names being reused or echoed is enough to catch your attention.
