Sudden Shocking Squalor

Out on my trundle today, I had a bit of a nasty shock which I think ought to be recorded. I had decided to just take one of my usual routes: the DLR from Woolwich to Star Lane, then a nice pleasant stroll along the Lea up to Stratford. It’s a trundle I now know well. Getting off the train at Star Lane though, I was met with something I definitely wasn’t expecting. It’s only a small DLR station, and there is only one lift. Whenever I have used it before it has been nice and clean, but today I was shocked to find a homeless man sleeping in it, his belongings strewn across the lift floor. It was a shocking, unpleasant sight. As there was no other lift I could use , I had no choice but to wake the guy up and allow me in. Fortunately I only needed to go up a single floor; but having come to think so highly of London public transport and its stations, to have been so suddenly confronted with such squalor was to be honest rather haunting.
