I’m finding it more and more annoying that kids are now just grunting at me when I’m pass them in the streets: they grunt or make weird noises at me, their implication being that I have some kind of learning disability. It happened again this morning. I know that I should just ignore it, but it feels so derogatory and disrespectful, as though they think they are being clever in forcing a label onto me that I don’t necessarily want. The thing is, if they just took a few minutes to stop and talk to me, they would probably find that I’m not too different from them. But they never do, so all I can do is put up with them grunting at me in the street.
