Following the enormously sad death of Walter Koenig yesterday, I’d like to just direct everyone to this powerful, heartfelt tribute to him be Sean Ferrick. While I certainly think of myself as a Trekkie, I have never seriously sat down and watched the episodes of the original series of Star Trek, so I don’t feel I know it as well as The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine. Nonetheless, thanks largely to the films, Trek created a set of characters which I still have tremendous affection for. They showed us what was possible, and taught us to hope for a brighter, more collaborative future for humanity exploring the stars. Sadly, we have now reached the point in time when they are taking their leave from us, one by one. Walter, like his shipmates, will be missed.
